Montalbano Elicona.

Winner of the “Il Borgo dei Borghi 2015″ prize  in RAI-3 TV show “Alle falde del Kilimangiaro”, Montalbano Elicona has a rich historical, cultural and environmental heritage and something truly magical about it.

The Norman Swabian Castle was Federico II of Aragon summer residence from 1302 to 1308. St. Katherin Church and the main Church have different Gagini’s statues.

Montalbano Elicona is also famous for Argimusco Rocks and its megaliths, and for its folkloristic local traditions which still are tourist attractions nowadays.

Argimusco Rocks.

35-argimuscoThe rocky complex of Agrimusco (1200 mt above sea level) is the unique megalithic site in Sicily; peculiar disposition of the huge sandstone rocks depends on their particular function of old astronomical observatory and human and natural elements conjunction.

Male and Female menhirs evoke a clear symbolic bond with fertility and birth. Among the other rocks, the Mammoth, the Face, with a human profile, and the Eagle are the most suggestive.

Natural Reserve of Malabotta Wood.

With a 37 km2 extension  it has a varied vegetation of oaks, beech trees, pine trees, eucalyptus, chestnut trees and black poplars. With a bit of luck it is possible to see the Golden Eagle flying.

In August historical reenactment of Federico II entrance in Montalbano takes place.

You cannot leave without tasting their culinary tradition’ products. Hazelnuts, cheese, cured meats, legumes, olive oils and its famous durum wheat bread, still baked in wood-burning ovens.
